Russia to Sue Telegram over Refusal to Grant Access to User Messages

In Moscow, Russia’s state communications has announced its intentions to file a lawsuit against Telegram after its refusal to grant Russia’s State Security Agency, access to users’ messages. Telegram, headquartered in Dubai, is widely used across countries in Middle East and countries of the former Soviet Union.

Telegram as part of its privacy policies, allows users to communicate via encrypted messages which cannot be read by third parties, including government bodies. In spite of Telegram’s policy, Russia’s State Security Agency requested access to some messages to guard against terrorist attacks, which was declined by Telegram.

Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov in a Twitter post, has declared Telegram’s stand for privacy and freedom.
