Two technology giants have been found to be non-compliant to the General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR) law after its effect on Friday, 25th May, 2018. Facebook and Google face lawsuits worth $8.8 billion over their non-compliance. The Tech companies however, denied all allegations and insisted they are compliant to the GDPR.
The Facebook law suit filed by privacy advocate representative Max Schrems, an Austrian lawyer, accused the company of violating a portion of GDPR. Facebook was accused of not giving users the option to decide on the usage of their personal data. Additionally, Facebook blocked users who did not consent to their data being shared.
The lawsuit against Google, accused the company, of not giving options to users to determine how their data is shared. Instead, it forces them to consent to their personal data being shared in order to use an Android device.
