In a study conducted by Rutgers University located in New Jersey, it was discovered that Wi-Fi can be used to detect bombs and weapons. The wireless networking technology using its radio waves is able to penetrate bags, measure and estimate sizes and volumes of liquid substances and objects.
The study on the effectiveness of Wi-Fi in detecting dangerous objects recorded a minimum of 95% accuracy. The Wi-Fi is able to detect objects by examining the effect of penetration and bouncing of objects.
Yingying Chen, a professor from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, informed the public that the test is intended to develop a favourable method of reducing manpower activity during security checks.
