Facebook Account Cloning Hoax

Facebook has been hit by an account cloning hoax making the rounds since Sunday. Viral messages spread across the platform proclaimed false warnings of suspicious activities in users’ accounts. The false warnings convinced some users to forward the false claims to their friends even when they had not received duplicate friend requests.

Malicious users can take advantage of this situation to actually duplicate users’ accounts and glean information from their friends. Users are being encouraged by Facebook to report cloned accounts that send them friend requests.
