Somalia, an African country noted for several years of civil wars, is holding its first tech summit in its capital city Mogadishu. The three-day summit which began on Tuesday, 23rd October, attracted hundreds of tech business owners to discuss tech innovations and businesses beneficial to Somalia.
The summit’s main organizer, Abdihakim Ainte, said it was about time the negative perception about Somalia is changed. Ainte, the founder of Mogadishu’s iRise Hub, is optimistic that tech innovations will rebuild their destroyed economy.
Somalia had years of conflicts that involved clan-based militias, foreign armies and recently Al-Qaeda affiliated jihadists, the Al-Shabaab since 1991. Many internationally-backed governments were unable to restore peace over the years.
