Australian Court Fines Apple $6.7 Million Over Its Refusal to Remedy Third-Party Repaired Phones

In Sydney, Apple, An American Tech Giant has been fined $6.7 million by an Australian court. The Electronic Giant, was sued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for locking hundreds of  iPhones that had their broken screens repaired by non-Apple repairers.

The Australian Federal Court found the Tech Giant guilty of breaching Australia’s consumer law.  The court advised multinational companies to comply with Australian Consumer laws or face penalties.

Apple informed 275 smartphone users of their ineligibility to Apple remedy service if already repaired by a third party.  Apple‘s spokesperson in an email stated that, Apple had fruitful discussions with Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).  The Tech Giant had offered to compensate affected users and educate their employees on processes to ensure compliance to Australian Consumer Laws.
