Homeland Security Breach Exposes 240,000 Employees

Personal information of 240,000 employees of the Department of Homeland Security(DHS), in the USA, was exposed as a result of a data breach which occurred in May 2017.

The department mentioned that the ‘privacy incident’ was not as a result of a cyber-attack. They explained that the information was seen in the possession of a former employee of DHS Office of Inspector General during an ongoing criminal investigation.

The Agency said they alerted their employees of the data breach in a letter. Investigations are still ongoing and DHS hopes to get to the root of the matter.
