Financial Companies Face Data Exfiltration By Cyber Criminals

Researchers from Vectra, a cyber-security company recently discovered that, about 23 data exfiltration tunnels are being disguised by cyber criminals to steal sensitive data in the finance industry. The research carried out on finance industries, discovered the industry had the highest rate of data exfiltration as compared to other industries.

Within a period of five months from August 2017 to January 2018, for every 10,000 devices, the number of hidden exfiltration tunnels being disguised as unencrypted web traffic had increased from seven to sixteen in the financial industry.

Chris Morales, Vectra‘s head of security analytics, applauded finance companies for their efforts in curbing cyber attacks. She suggested that, continuously tracking the behavior of cyber crimes could be an alternative approach to dealing with cyber-attacks more effectively.
