Russia’s Federal Security Service banned Telegram months ago over its refusal to submit its encryption keys to grant access into private user messages. Two months after, Russia is taking stricter measures to completely ban the messaging app’s presence on Apple’s app store by ordering Apple to remove Telegram.
As part of the continuous measures to completely ban the messaging app, in early May, Russia blocked 50 VPN services and anonymous internet pages. In spite of the ban efforts by Russia, only 15 to 30 percent of Telegram’s activity have been affected.
Therefore, Russia has resorted to involving other Tech Companies to assist in the blocking of Telegram. Russia’s discussions with Google are underway to help in the complete ban of the messaging app.
