Russian Hackers Infiltrate Hundreds of US Electric Utilities

A group of Russian hackers known as Dragonfly or Energetic Bear have hacked into hundreds of US Electric Utilities control rooms. The hacking is said to have almost caused power outages. The chief of industrial control system analysis, in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), informed the public of the near power cut as a result of the hackers’ activities.

Officials from the DHS did not reveal which companies had been affected, but were quick to add that, it was possible for such companies not to be aware that they had been affected.

The hacked utilities follows remarks made by the Trump administration in the first quarter that accused Russia of  a cyber attack against U.S electricity facilities.
