YouTube Accused of Breaking Child Protection Laws

YouTube, a subsidiary of Google, has been accused by 23 advocacy groups for collating data of children without consent from their parents. The advocacy groups, inclusive of the Center for Digital Democracy and 21 other organizations, filed the complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

YouTube, the American video-sharing website, uses the data of these children as a target for advertisers.

In response, YouTube said the website only registers children above the age 13 years.

YouTube denied receipt of the complaint and assured users of its commitment to protecting children and families.
